I don't know why so many people confuse the two.
You are confused between (adding) airbags (to a stock suspension) and an air suspension. I dump the air out of my air suspension, the frame is on the bumpstops.
An air suspension works almost exactly the same way as an air pinbox. The difference is the suspension has 2 airbags, the pinbox one, the air suspension supports (in my case) about 8k, the pinbox closer to 4k. Due to a lack of metal springs supporting the load, there is no over stiffness in the suspension causing the trailer to bounce in the first place.
The difference in vertical movement between the trailer and the truck is absorbed by the airbag in the hitch, the difference in vertical movement between the truck and the pavement is absorbed by the airbags in the suspension.
Most chucking is caused by the front of the trailer rapidly moving up and down, the TV pivoting on the front axle, so from the drivers seat it seems like you are being slapped in the heat by the seat. Airbags *can* help this, by supporting some of the load, and preventing the metal springs from being over flattened, then rebounding.
