My response is that, husbands and wives sometimes need to help each other make good decisions, not just emotional ones.
I see both sides. I agree with Merrykalia that telling a spouse "no, you cannot do this" is wrong. However, if there is a safety issue, then just saying "here are the keys, go" is also wrong. I think the point is that there is a better way of handling the situation than telling your spouse "no, I will not allow you to do this", "I forbid you to do this", "no, you cannot do this". Those come off as very controlling versus caring.
