Guess I'll put in my 2cents worth after reading all these posts. As a female driver (also pulled fivers), IMO she is using the "I'll take it myself" in hopes that you will give in and go. She has to know she has no experience in handling such a rig, much less setting it up. My concern is the safety of the children. I can see good points in all these posts It really is not a matter of life and death if you go, but could be if she goes and takes the children.
I would opt for the RV park nearby, explaining the amount of traveling/setup time for their schedule.
For some reason, this trip is very important to her. It's going to be a **** if you do and **** if you don't. After this weekend is past, IMO I think some REAL lessons in hooking up, unhooking, backing in and setting up are in order for your wife.
Please consider the children, damage if it happened to the truck/trailer are
replaceable. I am back to getting the RV park site and MAYBE moving over when everyone is there. Also, would try to find out what their reasons are for not wanting you there ahead of them. Good Luck.
