I don't think that's the case at all. You're only talking a few small slivers of polyurethane or phenolic material that would be add up to literally pennies for Andersen. I'm betting that they just haven't actually had that much of an issue reported to them as related to bed deflection. They are the same company that offers "non-slip" pads now for their levelers after customers reported the levelers slipping out from under the tires. They are the same company that has sent replacement hitches out to customers when a new design came out.
