On my '02 D'max CC SWB 4x4, I have my Companion set as high and as far forward as it will go. This, according to B&W, puts the center of my king pin about 1.75" ahead of the axle centerline, IIRC. I can get my tailgate down while hitched, can't hit my cab when going forward at full lock L or R, and have right at 8" bed clearance with only about 1.5-2" nose high. I would absolutely NOT want the pin any further aft, or I'd look like a WWII search light spotting bombers over London at night because my a$$ would be sagging. As it is, I'm about 1-2" tail low...maybe.
