I won't dispute your experience, but the type of hitch used shouldn't affect front end loading. But placement of the hitch certainly can. However, that 29RS has a dry pin weight of 1538 lbs and assuming your truck is a 145 inch wheelbase model, then locating the king pin 3 inches behind the rear axle will only reduce front end load by about 32 lbs. That little change should not affect steering feel.
Too bad you already changed trailers, a cheaper solution would have been to install a Ranch Hand bumper to put more weight back on the front axle. Actually, the problem was likely not the amount of weight on the front axle, but just the leverage that is applied to the truck by having the king pin behind the rear axle. If you had reversed the Andersen adapter moving the king pin in front of the rear axle, then that should have been all that was needed to improve steering feel.
The gooseneck version of the AUH is not reversible.
I said reverse the adapter, not the hitch. And again the amount of weight shift is minimal, just check the numbers. It is all about leverage. If any hitch puts the pivot point behind the axle it will affect steering. But certainly lighter trucks will be affected more.
From my previous post:
The B&W turnover ball is installed 1" in front of the axle this is per B&W's specs. The Andersen mounts on top of that. It only installs one way and that is with the arrow pointing to the rear of the truck. I called Andersen and asked if the hitch could be reversed and they said NO... The coupler is reversed which brings it closer to the cab of the truck NOT farther away.
You can call it leverage if you like but the end result is the same- too much weight is taken off of the front axle and steering is way too light. The AUH is not a good match for the 15-17 F150's.
Again you followed B&W instructions, do they not apply to the B&W hitch ? Is there a reason for doing so, if you had an Andersen to install ?? The same results you got with the B&W hitch would of been the same with the Andersen if it was installed in the same location 1" forward of the center of axle.
My point is ,and hopefully you are not blaming Andersen for your problems, if you would have installed the Andersen in the same location as the B&W this thread would be nonexistent .
