If the adapter is installed correctly, the weight is transferred both through the set screws and longitudinally on the king pin. How much of the weight is placed where? Well, that's anyone's guess. In the OP's original post, everything was pretty well warped in that area. I'm with the crowd that thinks the pin box was junk.
Lippert makes some fine products, and some that are just garbage. But RV consumers as a whole keep buying over-priced junk, so that's what we keep getting.
