Angle of departure question....

So I recently upgraded from a 19' bumper pull to a 27' 5er. The 5er is within one degree of the 19 footers departure angle, but has a longer overhang. One of my favorite boondocking sites has a concrete trough in the road for runoff that the 19' barely cleared in the back. With the longer 5er having about the same departure angle, can I expect it to clear or will the longer overhang get me?
  • Have a spotter on the first go. I suspect you will NOT clear as you have a longer hand over. Hod did you come up with the 1 degree figure?
  • Try laying some boards in the trough so the wheels don't go so deep when driving through it. Your spotter will be able to tell if you are going to drag. Good luck and enjoy your new fiver.
  • I measure from the tires to the back bumper and then from where the tires meet the pavement to the back bumper and used a geometry calculator to figure out the angle. The real issue is its a one lane road with not a lot of turn around spots so it could mean a loooooong back up.
