Another Blow Max Failure

2014 Jayco 5th wheel 3rd season. Blew @ 55 mph like a cannon. Air checked before each trip and during each trip. TPMS which went off immediately. Off road quickly, no damage. Tire has 2 blow out holes each showing belts like shredded wheat. Why doesn'the govt.(NHTSB)do something about these varying manufacturer failures? There are surely enough complaints and reports.

    I've followed NHTSA safe/car.gov trailer tire complaints for many years. What I've noticed is their lack of concern simply because there were no deaths or injuries.
    Example;
    ....some years back there were over 250 Carlisle complaints and around 150 complaints on the Marathons on safecar/gov tire complaints website. I found on NHTSA homepage where they came in and looked at those complaints then removed 90 percent of them and declared the remaining ones as not of concern because no deaths or injuries were reported or wrong information was supplied.

    NHTSA simply isn't interested in tire failure and vehicle damage. If there were no fatalities reported in the Ford Explorer/Firestone debacle nothing would have never been done by the feds.......JMO
  • BlowMax claimed that the new Nylon cap was going to resolve these issues along with Carlisle a couple years ago and GY Marathon in the late 90's. Not hearing about Carlisle failures recently? What have they done differently?

    To OP, put Sailun S367's on it. They now have both ST235/80R16G and ST235/85R16R tires.

  • Wow !! Sorry to hear about your tires, we have had the same problems over the years, and thought about changing over to Light Truck tires. We will do that at the end of the season, barring any problems before then. You are very lucky after the last tire blowout on our TT did $ 400.00 worth of body damage to it. So far the 5'er is faring much better, but not going to chance it. As far as the Govt. not doing anything, in our opinion that's normal, until some big wigs trailer is damaged and we know that is not going to happen, cause they don't camp !! Good luck and Happy Travel !!
