Another Disc Brake Conversion

After my electric drum brakes failed and actually fell apart for the 2nd time getting into Silverton, CO, I decided there had to be something better and I had better do it before we went off the side of a mountain! I pull a 38' 5th wheel double towing a small aluminum Titan trailer w/ my 50" RZR 900 with a 2001 F350 dully. I love to off road, but prefer it in my RZR!! My research led me to disc brakes and Zanetti Trailer in Weatherford, TX. I could not find a reputable disc brake installer in Tulsa, OK near where we live, so we made the 5 hour trip down to Weatherford. I am so glad we did...this shop is family owned and in addition to awesome customer service, is extremely knowledgable and experienced in disc brake conversions. We came down the night before, spent the night in their yard and were back on the road home by 3pm. My wife was impressed that two of the family "girls"(mom&daughter) did the install...said she would at least know it was done RIGHT!

Now for the disc brakes...what a difference. Truck and 5th wheel stop as one, no herky jerky and it stops faster and in control. Best money spent and we can hit the mountains with confidence now not dread. I'm a happy camper!
  • Almost every big truck on the road has oil covers on the front and tag axles, if they have a tag, and they use gear lube. I trucked in the 60s and 70s and I changed everything to oil and would never go back to grease. The Kodiaks came with oil covers so the owner could have the choice. It was a no-brainer for me. Craig

    Oil covers ??????

Bearings lubed with oil rather than grease.

  • Mine are Kodiak disc's, Titan actuator & Takonsha P3 brake controller.
  • I am thinking of disc brakes for my trailer also, what brand did you guys purchase for your conversions?
  • Glad to hear that. I converted mine a couple months ago and we are about to head south to Yuma next week. We'll feel safer.
