I couldn't imagine hauling an additional 2500 lbs of 'stuff'. Fully loaded, ready to head out, I only have about 900 lbs of 'stuff'. I haul with about 15 gals of water, and that is included in my 900 lb additive.
Now, I will say 5er's have a huge storage compartment, so maybe you will be tempted to fill it, I dunno. But I suspect you will be fine. Best to weigh the truck, full of fuel, with passengers etc so you know how much payload you have left over. If you added 1000 lbs of stuff, you will be at 11000 lbs, and 20 percent of that is 2200. That leaves you 700 and change for passengers etc..
