Thanks everyone. I really enjoy all the feed back you give regarding these types of questions. I am really interested in a 5er but also want a comfortable tow. My wife daughter and I love to travel. We live in Indiana and have been West to Yellowstone, East to Maine, and just got back from Disney World. I am constantly looking around the campgrounds to see what other people are pulling with. I see F 150's hooked to a cougar fifth wheel and think OMG!! Then I see a 250 pulling a big Montana. I'm thinking with the distance we like to travel I should look at 5ers in the 10k range. I assume my mileage won't change much from what it is now. Between 8 and 10 mpg depending on which direction I'm heading. There are some very nice ultra lite 5ers out there. The sprinter wide body floor plan really look good for the price. But I want to be safe when pulling especially when going down the Mountains. So I'll concentrate on the ones around 8,500 empty weight.
Thanks again and safe travels to everyone.
2 of the better brands have some nice "half-ton towable" (yeah, right) models. Jayco Eagle HT all come in +/- 10k GVW and the KZ Durango 1500 models are all at 10.5k GVW. Yes, you do sacrifice cargo capacity, so if that's an issue, you'll need to address it. FWIW, 1 specific model of each line are my top 2 choices, for now.
