Hey Sniperduce, RK and all,
Sniperduce, thanks for the travel report. So glad you had a safe and enjoyable trip. Wow, what a great trip. To have your 347 just had to make things top notch. I agree on the thickness of the piece under the rear wheel. I am considering buying a flat piece of steel, maybe 1/2-3/4 inches thick--same measurements, cover it with indoor/outdoor carpet and see if that will give a bigger foot print without flexing.
RK, my dealer mounted my chock plate solid in the floor and my chock itself is removable from the plate. Once I remove the chock, I spread the carpet over it and the space is very usable--a little rise in the carpet but I don't move a chair that far into the cubbie hole. As for my 2 euro chairs and footrests, I secured them with tiedowns while the HD was in the garage and did some wedging w/blankets to keep things from rubbing and they rode fine--and no damage.
About the 2 bike thing???????????????? The 347 is really built to accomodate 1 large bike, ATV, or a couple of dual purpose or off road bikes. One of the things we have done for the last 5 years in our search for "just the right trailer" was make a list of must haves, wants, and needs.
Shartflhs, The 347 filled everything on our lists and more. BUT, we weren't considering a second bike. I would really be reluctant to do 2 full size bikes personally. That cargo area is max 2000# and the desk houses the hot water heater. I'm not a rebuilder so removing the desk would be a huge piece of work.
We just spent another 2 weeks at a local lake in the 347 and we are so very happy with all of it. The "man cave" had to be converted to a bedroom for daughter, her husband and granddaughter for one night. They were tent camping and then the rains came. The "man cave" was the only smart thing to do. We have told our kids, "the 347 feeds countless numbers of people (9 or us for meals for 2 days over the 4th) but it only sleeps 2. OK so there are exceptions.
I continually have to wipe the smile off my face. This 5th wheel design was made for us.
1 last thing: I became concerned about the security of my unit while it was parked in a RV park or lake or a parking lot (while in route) against thieves. We can all lock our walkin doors, but the ramp is easily opened and the whole unit is accesible.
So I cut a 2X2 into 2-16" lengths and a 1X4X8'.
I cut the 1X4 to 66" long, placed it as a header at the top of the door so it contacts the ramp and the inside header of the trailer, mounted the 2X2's to the 1X4 to match up with the steel mounts (for the support jacks for the ramp). I drilled holes through the 2X2's to match the holes for the support jacks' pins and walla----it's a dead bolt system that is really solid. This will help me keep track of the pins as well. To finish, so I don't damage the interior back wall, I covered the 1x4 with indoor/outdoor carpet which also helped take any movement/rubbing out of the equation.
Hey, gotta run,
Thanks to all for comments and experiences,
Enjoy the ride,
Darrell
