Hi all. I just wanted to share a "tire" experience with you. In mid May as I was pre-tripping my 347THT, I noticed a large bulge on the inside of the right rear tire. Proves the value of how important the pre-trip inspection is. Had I not found this, it would have made contact with the leaf springs and caused a blowout..the bulge was that large. The tire still had 80# psi.
Tires are Goodyear Marathon ST235/80R16. Percent of wear=25%
I made arrangements to have the spare put on and pulled the unit to a Goodyear dealer 2 blocks away. I have been a long time customer of Goodyear but not this store. When the store manager observed the "blister" (the size of a football) he indicated he would go to bat with Goodyear for an adjustment. I pointed out to him the manufacture date on the tires was 3rd week of 2009. I took possession of my 347 May, 2010 so the tires were over a year old on my new trailer.
I told the store manager to replace all 4 tires on the ground and somewhat reluctantly, went with the same tire: Marathon ST235/80R16.
The store manager really went to bat for me. He authorized adjustments on all 4 tires on the ground and I ended up paying $51.00 per tire.
I do everything I know of to protect my tires. I cover them when parked and they are not resting on concrete/blacktop/gravel. I check psi regularly and I maintain a safe tolerance of weight on the 347.
Lessons learned/highlighted: PRE-TRIP INSPECTION, POST-TRIP INSPECTION, close inspection of tires at all stops. Budget to replace tires every 4 years (using the manuf. date on the tires). Continue my relationship with Goodyear...they have treated me right over the last 25 years.
That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.
