Being new to taking time off I have many questions about 5th wheels but the present question has some urgency because we are putting in an order for a 2016 unit. We are ordering an Arctic Fox Silver Fox Edition 27-5L. While going through the build sheet we added the 15K Air Conditioner and the 4 point leveling system. When it came to power I was told the 30 amp system would be sufficient for this size unit. I also see a few people who think the 50 amp service is a good option to have. Can someone give me reasons the 50 amp service is worthwhile on this 30’ 5th wheel? Or reasons the 30 amp is better suited? I also would like to know about the heating system. When hooked up to the 30 amp service is heat provided by electricity or the propane bottles? This is all new to me; my last RV was a Rough Rider overhead camper on my 1972 Datsun pickup that had a 2 burner gas stove for heat and an ice chest for a refrigerator. A few things have changed.

My belief, it is always better to have more if you don't need it. Drawbacks are heavier cord and you need a 30 to 50 adapter. But, having more power and not having to power manage things would be awesome. Example: Hun, you can't blow dry your hair, the AC is running and I am making coffee.

Go with the 50 AMP service that way you can run both ACs at the same time. Plus all the reasons mention above.

Heat source is from burning propane, but the furnace fan runs on elec. and doesn't draw a lot. I would agree with previous posters though that having the choice now, I would go for the 50 amp. Carry a 50-30 amp adapter for those times you find yourself in a campsite with just 30 amp service.You're doing right to ask questions first. Go slow and careful till you get the hang of it. Two changes I would definitely make. Drop the 4pt and get the 6pt levelup system. Definitely go 50A. May not need it today, but what happens next year when you want to add a second AC?

The difference is bigger than you think. It is really 30 amps at 110V or 100 amps at 110V since there are no 220V items in an RV. The power cord is much heavier. I manage mine by having a 4 ft length, a 12 ft length and a 20 ft length that can be combined when longer runs are needed.

I'm considering downsizing to an Arctic Fox. What does the 4-point and 6-point Leveling option run?

Currently we have the 6-point on our Redwood, while the Artic Fox is shorter I would still think the 6-point will make it much more stable than the 4-point. You won't need to add anything else for stability with the 6-point, no tripod or anything is necessary with the leveling system. Drop the trailer from the truck, hit auto level and within 2 mins your ready to hook up and enjoy.

The backup camera we chose is a WVOS511 Voyager wireless with a 5.6" LCD color monitor with audio for the interior and a wireless camera for the rear of the RV. A helpful tool for parking and traveling.

Thank you for the input all. Our tow vehicle is a 2005 Ford F350 with an Edge programer for towing. The 6.0 has been upgraded.

Thinking about the rear camera system now. We meet in a couple of days to finalize the list. What is in the cab to view the rear camera?

Yes we are excited. A new way of life, taking time off to enjoy. My first in many years. Quite a transition.

We ordered our 2014 AF 27-5L with: 50 amp, 4pt leveling, 5.5 Onan LP Generator and one 12.5AC. I think your better off with the 15.0 AC as a single AC source, however last 7/4/2014 and temps of 104 deg we were able to keep the interior temp around 75 degrees for a three day trip consuming two tanks of LP. The four point leveling system works fine and makes setup easy with a push of a button! You'll love that handy feature. We ordered the incliner love seat sofa in place of the air hide a bed, I will be replacing that with a couple of power recliners soon. Also our order included a rear view camera, central vac, heat pads on all tanks both 12V and 110V, 10 cubic foot fridge, fan-vent/w rain sensor, slide toppers, thermal pane windows and 5th airborne pin box. We removed the stand alone factory recliner and just added a small fire place heater. What is your tow vehicle? Enjoy…..bet your anxiously awaiting that new rig. We love ours!

I would guess two additional pads going down would help if the ground were soft. On a 30’ is it otherwise noticeable? Is it self-leveling or do you still make adjustments? Thanks. I also recommend 50 amp unless you will be 95% off grid.
Likewise if you are always plugged in I would option two air conditioners if available.

We had a Citation 30' fifth wheel with 13,500 air conditioner, 10 gallon HWT, and 8 cubic foot fridge. I can tell you with everything running the 30 amp service was barely adequate and I would actually run the HWT a on gas if my wife was trying to run a hair dryer or curling iron in addition to this because the service and cord would overheat.

So, go with the 50 amp service. It appears you already have but thought I would add my confirmation of this. Good luck!

Thank you so much. I am so used to home service I had forgotten the 30amp is 1 leg of 110.
I emailed the change today. Whew. May not have needed it or may have, at any rate, we are covered. Thank you so much for the timely input on the power question. I will get together with our dealer to finalize the change soon. Still seems strange how these are wired, but then again, I get my hind end kicked once in a while with a 3-way switch too. Always good to have a helping hand. Thank you again.

I have a 27-5l , 2014. I have 30 amp. And yes I can run my AC and Microwave at the same time. If you are going to put 2 AC on it go 50amp. And have it ordered that way with 2 AC and 50 amp. Doing the 2 AC later is more money. I also got on board LP Gen. You will Love it. Good luck
