I've pulled both and I have much less sway issues with the 5th wheel trailer. Simply hook up and go with nothing to adjust.
A 1/2 ton truck can safely pull a 5th wheel trailer.
What size trailer depends on what size 1/2 ton truck you have . 1/2 ton trucks are not all the same.
There are 1/2 ton truck out here with GVWR from 6xxx on up to 8600 and rear axles, that carry the load, from 36xx on up to 6084 RAWR. Some come OEM with load range E tires and some come with passenger car tires.
The point is we can't tell you what size trailer (5er or TT) your 1/2 ton truck can pull/carry. Gonna' need some numbers from your truck or if you don't have a truck we can help you there.
Year model/engine/gear ratio/tranny type/trucks GVWR/trucks RAWR/P or LT tires all play a part in selecting a 5th wheel trailer to fit your 1/2 ton trucks capabilities.
