Trailers of 102" wide have been legal in all 48 states and Canada for the last 20 years. In fact there is a Federal mandate of such, and there is a specific allowance of 2" per side for add on structures i.e. awnings slide toppers etc. I've seen semi trailers as wide as 106" wide under the provisions of the 2" add on, i.e. all the curtain sided semi trls you see are 106" wide.
Sorry, but you're wrong...In NC, in 2003, a 102" wide TT or 5er wasn't legal....I live here, I did the research, I know what I stated for fact....BUT, I owned the one I mentioned for 2 yrs and never got stopped...I was merely stating that "most" TT's and 5er's are 96" wide...there are some that are 100" and some that are 102" wide.....
I'm talking recreational 5th wheels and travel trailers..and in 2003', ie, less than 20 years ago, 102" width 5er's were "illegal" in the state of NC... but don't think anyone really cared.
That was in 04'..it appears now they can be 102" wide now...but I notice in New Jersey, limited to 8' unless on some federal roads, (Interstates), where it's also 102", I also noticed in NY, that 102" is ok, but with some restrictions and exceptions, hmmm....it's there for the research...Not 20 years ago here, but now..yes...and most other places....I was giving an example and that was only 12 years ago, not 20.
