Some of you people in this thread should band together and start your own RV manufacturing company. Sounds like you have it all figured out. Best of luck.:h
IMO the only thing that is going to change anything will be an economic downturn that results in kicking the poop out of Forest River, Thor, and more so Lippert Components.
Until that happens wish in one hand and sheet in the other.
Grand Designs main fault is they use more Lippert and their partners such as Furrion's garbage than anyone else. I've seen their customer service albeit second hand and it does seem to be awesome, much better than The big two which I do have first hand experience with.
Good luck to this Aussie company but they'll only be competing in a niche market at those prices. It's not going to affect the big two in any way shape or form.
Before I retired I spent almost 44 years in manufacturing. As an Engineer, a Maintainence Supervisor, Machining Supervisor And a Production Supervisor for Ingersoll Rand, Hercules and last 23 years plus with Continental Automotive... three World Class Manufacturers. Specially trained in 5S, Lean Manufacturing and about every facet of Qualityy and manufacturing process that I can think of. I understand that First is safety of workers, next is quality control processes build into the manufacturing process, INCLUDING Quality control and Engineering process checks of ones distributors. Continental Automotive was ISO TS 16949 compliant every year I worked for them. The number has changed some over the years, but the accomplishment of this certification speaks VOLUMES of ones quality , reliability and it’s reputation as a WORLD CLASS manufacturer.
A lot of old engineers in here as well as people who worked in manufacturing could give these RV Manufacturers a lesson or two in QUALITY and the training of the workers. I really don’t think they care because they’re the only game in town...and you’re right Furrion has GOT TO BE the CHEAPEST PIECE OF TRASH A MANUFACTURER COULD PUT IN AN RV( cutting corners and quality as usual), Lippert gets away with murder because they have NO competition. Same for some manufacturers buying Chinese tires by the boatload to cut corners, without a care for our safety. Most have an”OUT OF SIGHT “ warranty... once you drive it out of sight....
