FIRST - I made sure to get an RDS tank that was lower then my bedrails. My 40 gallon tank/tool box combo is 1 inch lower. Also, I have heard they will build custom tanks - but they have MANY different tanks and tool box combos. I don't believe Northern Tools shows all of them - go to the RDS website and look around.
Then I went looking for covers. Never could find a hard cover that would work for me. So I started looking at soft tops. Came across the Truxedo Truxport and had it installed. $300 installed in 2013. I am very happy. No clearance problems and very weather tight. Can only be opened after opening the tailgate.
Now a Happy Camper !. Highly recommended.
