On a camping trip last year it rained over night and we didn't have the awning tilted enough. The rain puddled up and bent the awning tube. It's the manual style awning. Is there a way to bend it straight again? It's not overly bad but bad enough that when you roll it up it wobbles. It can still be used but I just want to make it right again. Thanks

I'm not sure about an aluminum extrusion like a awning tube but shafts are straightened regularly. It takes someone who knows exactly what they are doing and the right equipment and is not cheap for something that big. You could probably buy a new awning for about the same price as straightening. If you are just trying to make it better, you would have to support it on both sides of the bend and force the bend back where it needs to be. Most beginners will make it worse instead of better.

I feel your pain, or should I say bend as I dealt with this last summer as well. I found some videos on YouTube that showed some attempts. After viewing them and seeing a bend of about 3 inches in the center I didn't attempt it. My insurance covered it and agreed to replace the tube and awning fabric since it was stretched as well. Since the awning was approaching 10 years old the fabric was depreciated about 10% by ordering the tube with fabrics already installed and with new end caps with springs, it was the most cost effective way to go. I believe the overall cost including shipping was just under $1000 of which I paid my $100 deductible and depreciation. The awning works perfect. good Luck

If that's the case I might have to call the insurance company

We also had a problem a few years back.... once I decided that is was not something that I wanted to tackle myself we called the insurance company... paid the deductible and good to go... depending on how bad the bend is , once it is bent back , that could weaken that portion of the tube.

We had a bent roller tube on our last trailer and successfully straightened it. Open the awning, disconnect the arms and rest the tube on two saw horses with the bend facing up. Then apply force at the high point. Worked great.

PPL sells a roller tube for the A&E awnings for about $160.
Replacing the roller is NOT trivial, but there are YouTube videos to help see what is involved.

Check your comprehensive coverage. If you have it this may pay for your awning. My insurance paid 10K to repair a cracked frame on the Cedar Creek I had. It was paid under comprehensive.

Well its still frozen outside so I can't do anything yet. But I think I might try to straighten it first then go from there.

If you are paying for this out of pocket, I would try to straighten the awning tube first. If it doesn't work then you could purchase either a new tube or depending on the cost of the tube maybe a whole new awning. I don't know about you but my own labor is cheap! Good luck, let us know what you decide.

Redfire, yes, I paid the deductible and small amount of depreciation is all. I believe my overall out of pocket cost was about $115. I didn't price only a replacement tube but know it can be ordered by itself. With your $500 deductible it might be the way to go. I believe the labor to have it done is only a few hours.
