I drove the ALCAN up to Fairbanks in 1973 when it had 1,100 miles of dirt road and it was smoother than most blacktop down here. All the roads (unless you wanted to go to Circle or way out in the boonies) were fine for my old Dodge maxi-van. I doubt anything's gotten any worse since then unless you are traveling too fast, are overloaded, going somewhere you shouldn't (and wouldn't do something like that down here!), or have tires not inflated correctly. (I also came back down the ALCAN when it was being paved in '75, and that was a nightmare.)
