If you are lined up straight to begin with you should not have to move the wheel over the width of your hand to keep going straight. You're over-correcting and by the time you see the trailer move you have to correct the other way. When I went thru truck driving school we had to pull straight forward abt 250' between 2 lines marked on the road, stop, and then back up between them. The instructor said the biggest mistake most drivers do is when they start backing the first thing they do is move the wheel.
