Absolutely take lots of pictures from all angles inside and out before you move the branch. If you have moved it, put it back where it was.
We had this happen in the Fall of 2006 to our 36' Carriage 5th wheel here in Michigan while we were out in Montana with our Lance TC. A 7" branch fell and went thru the roof right over the bed and the cross branches hitting the roof stopped the penetrated end approx 6" above the mattress while we were gone. We were gone for 5 weeks so we don't know for sure when it happened but we know how wet the carpet is and the front full width closet and the stuff in it and that the water flowed down the steps and soaked the living room floor too as that carpet was soaked and floating. We could snell a strong mold odor too. It was a rear kitchen RV. I've written so many posts about it on this forum alone. A picture is worth a thousand words and it's so true.
Called our ins agent when we discovered it and he contacted the home office and started the claim action going. The home ins claim office underwriting adjuster called and the first thing she asked was if we had any pictures. Yup! Can you email some to me? Yup! Next day, she called again and asked if I can meet the local adjuster they'll send at the 5th wheel at X time? Yup! Adjuster came and looked and said the damage matched the pictures I'd sent and that I will hear back from the underwriter soon. Next day, she called and claim approved and said I have a choice to total it or have it repaired. What would you like to dO? Total it as the cost to repair was very close to the value of the expensive 5th wheel and because the carpet was floating, bed mattress ruined, walls buckling from the water behind them, don't know what else is hidden inside that is damaged or ruined and then there's the roof structure and basement that sat soaked for how long. The mold smell really concerns me as the basement is totally soaked and stinks.
3 days later, we got the check and for all the stuff of ours inside included that I told her was there of value. She called back 3 different times and asked if we'd found any other personal items inside that were damaged or ruined. During the second call, jokingly, I said I had a old pair if catapillar leather boots in the front closet that were soaked and had mildew but I was going to throw them away anyway. She asked what they cost new and I gave her a guess as I wasn't sure. She then said she's going to send another check for the full cost of new boots and I couldn't believe what I was hearing as I was only just joking with her.
The whole ordeal was done so quickly and extremely satisfactory to us and we were so pleased but I can't say that all ins claims will go like ours as who knows? Our insurance was with Citizens Insurance of Michigan, home office is in Howell, Michigan. Our rates didn't raise a dime since either on our other 2 RV's. Our big Lance TC and our 29' Carriage Carrilite 5th wheel and both are still on the same policy with our vehicles.
