- jevanbExplorergo to a tuner and get EFI you will love the new power for towing and mpg increase, it also includes a exhaust brake if desired. I had a 25hp & 50hp tow tune with exh brake from APT trucks I still have a tow tune but it is a lot different with my setup then stock. A autocal with tunes is cheaper then just a exh brake and you can read the ECM, data log, and clear codes with it.. total cost 650.00
- sierrajoeExplorerthank you for all your input on the speed brake. I will look for some sale's around Christmas. wont need it until next years camping season. I think I will go with the banks. thank you all again.

The TRans brake on my Duramax will hold back our 16,000 lb 5th wheel with ease even on 8% grades. Now does it need extra help? Don't think so, but what if it were to not work? The Extra exhaust brake would be worth its weight in Gold.

The exhaust brake requires everything the grade braking uses plus activating the exhaust brake. That is torque converter lockup and ability to downshift the tranny. They work hand in hand, not in parallel . Chris - Pete_kExplorerThe TRans brake on my Duramax will hold back our 16,000 lb 5th wheel with ease even on 8% grades. Now does it need extra help? Pete - jevanbExplorerI love my exhaust brake when towing heavy by way of EFI live
- rodknockerExplorerHere is the BD electronic brake, Bully Dog is the company (http://www.xtremediesel.com/bd-powervariablevaneexhaustbrake.aspx). Your truck can't use an inline brake installed in the exhaust pipe due to having the variable vane turbo. The Banks version (http://www.bankspower.com/products/show/?option_id=315|1|Diesel%20Trucks%2C%20%0A07-10%20Chevy/GMC%20-%206.6L%20Duramax%20LMM|14) also is a programmer. Both "capture" the control of the turbo, trans and torque converter to effectively provide engine braking force. The brake force is usually advertised as braking horsepower. Banks was the first to have vvt braking. I have Banks but would think a major company like Bully Dog would have a good product.
- proptwisterExplorerThe factory programing on my 11' Duramax works much better than my 07' did. Installed the Banks Speedbrake on my 07' and it worked very well. MUCH better than stock. I would highly recommend it.
Matt - homefor2ExplorerI installed the BD Exhaust brake about 2 months ago and really am impressed with how it slows the truck down. I have not towed with it yet but I am looking forward to the peace of mind going down steep grades. I also have the torque lock so the converter is locked up when using the brake. BD (stands for Big Daddy) makes a quality product and has great support.

hello,
I want to get a exhaust brake for my 2007 1/2 gmc sierra 2500HD. can anyone tell me which one is better, or which one you like. thank you for any help you can give me.
Do you have a reason to need an exhaust or just because you would like to have one? Either reason is good enough for me but we tow a almost 15000 alpenlite and we do not need an exhaust brake. good luck on your search.

Don't need or don't want?
Do you need to use your service on long down hill grades? I didn't look to see if you are flat lander? Towing flat not really needed, but sure helps save the service brakes.
Larry like me does the annual snowbird thing for the NW to Arizona. Guess if someone has never used one, they really do not know what they are missing, except for one detail. The Cummins REALLY freewheels even with the Torque Converter locked up, where as the Duramax and PowerStroke seem to hold back better. BUT/HOWEVER ETC, both GM and Ford now offer something better!!!
