Battery Cut Off Switch

When I'm connected to shore power should my battery cut off switch be in the off position....or does it matter?
Thanks for any input.

  • Leave it on. Then you're drawing your load from the battery and the converter just floats a charge as needed. Cleaner power, easier on the converter and the battery.
  • Bob123 is right.
FWIW, Your Arctic Fox has a Progressive Dynamics converter/charger which will take good care of your batterys - so you can leave the switch on all the time.
  • Leave the battery cut off switch ON until you put trailer in storage for winter

With it ON the converter can keep battery charged when you are plugged into shore power and when you are not plugged into shore power the battery can provide the necessary 12V for trailer

Your 2014 Artic Fox should have a 3 stage converter/charger which does not need the battery to buffer (old vintage converters did----years ago) and it should not overcharge your battery.
  • Thanks......I just wanted to make sure having it on wouldn't do any harm.
  • Usually depends on your converter. Some require the battery to be on as a buffer. Post the brand and model and someone smarter than me will know.
  • Should be on, you want to be able to use your 12 volt lighting and possibly the water pump.
