BD3 Hitch on a Ram, what's required?

Obviously I know rails are required, but is there a drop in adapter to fit the OEM prep package? If so, what is your opinion of the adapter, and how much does it raise the height of the hitch? Hensley makes a great adapter for the Ford but they don't offer one (I think, waiting on an email back from Aaron) for the Ram.

Thanks
  • I don't have a ram, but in my ford I used the Reese adapter to mount my BD3 to the factory puck system and it works fine. I lowered the bolt holes one notch lower and voila! all level, and tows great.

We have a Ford and used Hensley adapter for the Ford, so I can't help you with your Ram, but did want to say that the Hensley BD3 air hitch is the best investment we've made. They call it the Trailer Saver and it sure does the job. I know it's pricey but our roads sure can do a job on our fiver.

In our case the adapter raised the hitch about 2". We had the IS suspension put on our trailer and that raised the trailer so we are running level.
  • Hensley makes a really nice product, BUT it's pathetic they have not came out with a hitch that will drop directly into the RAM puck system. For that one reason I would not consider one of their hitches and will stick with the B&W RVK3600 and TrailAire air bag kingpin.
  • I have the Demco/Highjacker 6099 picture frame. It is rated to 25k, weighs, 70 pounds, and can be released from pucks with a hitch still pinned to it. I removed my B&W RVK3270 and 6099 as a single unit with an HF electric hoist. Chris
  • Hensley got back to me. They sell an adapter. Probably not as strong as the Ford adapter plate which is massive.
