Worst time to buy is right now... everyone is itching to get out camping. Best time is middle of winter. There is a BUT to this though sometimes the deals present themselves at anytime.
You are doing right buying used. Our rig is a 2014 used for 3 months by the original owners. We saved $15k (ie they lost that amount). There is no advantage to buying a new RV other than getting the privilege of getting to know the warranty folks.
This was my gut feeling (lower prices in winter) in general, but I wondered about the upper/ premium segment suitable for full timers. While higher priced, there are fewer of them.
If folks keep buying broadly into this improving national economy, seems like early winter may be time to strike in the mist of a huge used inventory. I need to continue to educate myself, because it's hard for me to know when I'm witnessing a good deal, because I don't know the market well enough. I've identified the manufacturers and most of the product lines I'd buy. I bought a consumer report so I know which companies still exist and which don't, etc. At this point, it seems like I just need to keep rummaging through RVTrader, etc. looking at plans and making a "target list".
