Bird nest in the pin-box

So I keep the camper at a local storage lot. I went to pick it up yesterday and found a mess. Some birds built a nest in the pin-box and got bird droppings all over the place. I keep the umbilical tucked in there and it was covered.

Have any of you had this happen and what did you do to deter the birds from coming back?

Are there still eggs in the nest? You know, you can't use your FW until the little birdies leave for good.

Wren eggs aren't too bad on a toasted English Muffin.
  • Had the same problem, took a garbage bag stuffed with wadded newspaper and shoved it into the opening after the cord was inserted. Bag will form around everything and fill the cavity. No $ spent, my favorite type of solution.
  • This is a common problem all over in the spring. A lot of different birds love those 5er pin boxes. Last year a Killdeer nested under the front of one of the 5er in storage.

  • a piece of hardware cloth stopped the house wrens. That was after we had to take a nest full to the tire store mom wasn't to pleased with us.
  • I use pieces of aluminum siding that I had laying around and formed them to fit and block the entrance into the pin box. I also use two mesh laundry bags got at the dollar store. I cut the bottom out of one and then pull it over the pin box and then put the other one over the front end of the pin box. I then use bungee cords to hold in place. When I went to take the 5er out of storage a couple of weeks ago the mesh bag at the back of the pin box was pulled down and the metal moved and there was a nest in there with three eggs. I just put the 5er back in storage used the same materials and bungeed the bags a different way, hoping that the wee buggers can't manage to get in again.
