black dots exterior ???

My wife's WHITE Honda got that last year....we kept thinking it was tar, or even a fine black spray paint...we worked hard to get some of it off, but it was a PITA...thanks for the secret.

I had that cr*p on the hood\roof\passenger side of my black Corvette last summer. I thought it was the Peonies plants releasing pods. I had mulch covering the area around them. Thanks for the answer.

Heres what it is: Artillery mold/Artillery fungus. It usually comes from infected mulch or decaying wood ground cover. The fungus vessel basically explodes and sends airborne spores everywhere- they attach to anything solid within their flight path

Heres how to get rid of it: Step 1 is to remove the hard shell of the dot. some have used credit cards, that may be a bit harsh. I use one of the hard rubber/soft plastic vinyl decal applicators. Go over them using the tool at a slight angle to "pop" the shell off. A brown spot resembling tar will be left. Step 2, spay tilex or similar mold/mildew remover onto a rag and wipe over a manageable area. for example 2' by 2'. DO NOT LET THIS DRY!!!. This softens up the remnants. Step 3 is to use a wet magic eraser on the remaining spots. Go easy especially on the decals so you dont scuff the exterior. A very small amount of elbow grease will completely remove the spot without harming the exterior. Step 5--rinse thoroughly with clean water. Step 6-- apply wax. your finish is now completely exposed and a good coat of wax will not only protect and enhance the gloss, but you wont see any rub marks.

For best results, do this in the shade, and do small manageable areas so as to not let it dry.

Heres how to prevent it: remove any mulch or decaying ground cover near the coach.

I don't know about your spots, but I would suggest you STOP YELLING!

Fly poop also looks the same. It is a problem on the house at our farm.

It is the artillery or shotgun fungus. It comes from hardwood mulch. It started in PA. and since a lot of mulch is produced there; it has spread to a lot of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states. I had success using an old credit card and carefully scraping each one then washing. Get rid on any mulch near the RV and don't delay getting the fungus off; the longer it sits the harder it is to remove.

Rolo2 I can't answer the question but I have to ask, how is Baldwin? I grew up there (1965-1984) and have not been back. I grew up on Stowe Avenue, near Pathmark if it still exists. Is Nunley's still on Sunrise Hwy? LOL

I had black dots on my one side of my fiver that I thought was mold starting. Last year I used Protect all fiberglass cleaner and protectant from camping world. It took a lot of elbow grease to do.This year I used Bar Keepers Friend to remove oxidation and some of those pesky black dots and it worked fantastic. I got it at Walmart fot 1.38 for a can and did the whole one side with about a half of can. You might want to give it a try and see if it will work for you.

I second artillery fungus. Those darned black dots are very difficult to impossible to get off. Word to the wise: don't wait to try to clean them off.

Second also, get ride of the mulch. Replace with rocks or something that doesn't harbor the fungus. Google artillery fungus for more info.

My guess would be Artillery fungus. Looks like a bunch of little black specks of tar. Can reach up as high as soffits and beyond on two story buildings. I got 'em from mulch placed around the drive and walkways. Boogered up my car and boat. The tiny black dots don't come off. Get rid of the mulch.
