Black tank burst

And some waste went into basement. Lucky I had emptied the poo the day before. What type of bacteria cleaner could I use to clean rug area of basement?

And yes I was running black tank flush & got busy & it popped the seal. Live & learn.
  • I just mixed 1 cup bleach to 2 gallons water & scrubbed the basement out. Rinsed with hose. Now 2 fans doing the drying.
  • A tablespoon (1ounce) of bleach (5.5 % calcium hypochlorite) per gallon of water is sufficient to sanitize even the worst of spills. Please dont flush a stronger concentration into a waste water system. It would kill all the beneficial bacteria in the system.
Water pressure is 29" / # of elevation.
  • If bleaching your carpet doesn't work (or sounds like the nuclear method?) try an enzyme based pet waste treatment like Nature's Miracle (red bottles) or Simple Solution (blue bottles)
  • Water pressure is 44 lbs/sq inch per 100 feet of depth. This is a constant it makes no difference if the column of water is 1 1/2 inches in diameter (typical vent diameter) or the water pressure at 100 ft depth of water impounded 30 miles behind a dam! It has to do with height only!

So to keep numbers simple figure that your RV vent is 10 foot long. That would be water pressure of 4.4 lbs/sq inch. Doesn’t sound like much does it!

However, years ago I also forgot what I was doing! And blew the top seam on my waste tank! I forgot the dimensions now but if the tank was 36 in x 48 in that would be 1728 sq inches times 4.4 = 7603# total pressure on the top surface of the tank! No wonder I separated the top of the tank!

This is why it blew a fitting seal rather than just running out the vent!
  • It did not spill inside 5th wheel (lucky). Blew seal around 3" pipe & broke.

This is what we use to clean up blood and other human wast in the hospital.
  • Surprised it didn't just run out of the roof vent. May want to ensure vent is clear.
