Your biggest problem will be finding the leak. The only way to find it is most likely to fill the tank and the indication of where it is will be more smelly water going where you are now cleaning. So extreme cleaning at this point is probably a waste of time. Drain the tank. Flush the tank. Several times. Get the tank as clean as possible. Then fill the tank with water while looking in the area where the leak was. Sooner or later you will see a leak. As soon as you identify where the leak is drain the tank and repair.
