I agree with what MileHigh is saying. There has been tons of discussions on other forums about this problem with holding tanks failing in FWs. The poll on the Montana forum showed more black and gray tank failures than fresh water failures. It certainly has to do with the newer quality of these tanks plus the way they are being installed by many manufacturers.
The owner of any late model FW should be able to go down the road with any, or all of his tanks close to full and never worry about their stability. However, since reading about tank failures on many different makes of RV's in the past 2 years I always travel with an empty black and grays. I generally only keep about 10 gallons or less in my fresh water tank.
Agree 100%, C-Bear. Personally, I travel as light as possible for as long a distance as possible. The only time I do travel "heavy", is when we boondock. I'll travel empty to a dump station about 35 miles from where we stay, water down there on the way in, then dump on the way back. 8 miles of this is dirt and about 1.5 miles is somewhat rough, so that I'm in 4LO to help control speed over the couple worst spots. I did have one time that the dump station was closed, so had to drive all the way home, about 160 miles, full, but it was all freeway so pretty smooth. I have a lot of confidence in my FW, and don't think I'd ever have any sort of structural issue with it; it's these newer ones that scare me.
