Quint Da Man I think you need to look at my signature as I'm pretty sure it gets cold where I live. So the Michelin Ribs and Bridgestone Duravis R250 tires are not good winter tires in the drive position but get used lots in the steering and trailer position. Please go to a truck stop and look at steering, drive and trailer tread designs which are used all year around and from Mexico to Alaska. The tire guys are trying get your involuntary repeat business. I just ordered a new 16' trailer to haul my jeep with 16" R250's and my 24' gooseneck flatdeck has them too. My RV is the only trailer that only gets used in above freezing temps but we take them south in the winter from freezing temps.bpounds wrote:
Did you tell Tirerack that you were planning to use these on a trailer? I suspect the conversation would have been over at that point. The advice they gave was definitely not appropriate for trailer service.
I did tell them it was for a 5th wheel but I'm not sure it registered. But I did ask (thinking these are not drive wheels so winter tread is less important) if it was a tread issue making them a summer only or was it also a manufacturing/construction issue as well. They indicated it was tread and contruction and that the tire could actually fail in freezing conditions. I'm actually leaning towards what you guys are saying and since they are not the drive(powered) wheels that they will be fine. I might call Michelin just for sh*ts and see what they say. If the guy I was talking to at TireRack was stearing me towards a more expensive tire I'd be more leary but the tires he recommend where $100 cheaper a piece.
