Bow in toy hauler floor?

I called Eclipse RV and talked with the service manager about my trailer issues, sagging floor and loose front wall. The service manager said that they build there trailers with a bow in the floor so when weight is added the floor has room to level out. I know they build tractor trailers this way but have never heard of toy haulers being built with a bow. Kind of makes sense but then again I have a 20 foot car hauler that doesn't have a bow in it. What do you guys think?

  • I'm on the road and my internet sucks right now. I do have pics posted in another thread in the toy hauler forum titled "well this sucks"

I have an appointment with the dealer July 27th. Talked to Eclipse today so right now I'm just trying to gather info so i can get this fixed and fixed right without getting the shaft in the end.
  • Being a newer 2015 trailer and Eclipse not really having a history of sagging outriggers I wouldn't suspect. Really need some pics to see what you got going on and steer you in the right direction.

I have plenty of experience with sagging outriggers/bowed floors/water leaks on my last POS Weekend Warrior Superlite. So glad that thing is gone...
  • PS might be worth a few bucks to have your yard RV tech look it over real good and prepare an estimate that you can hand to eclipse.

As you said in your other post, warranty up Aug 8th. I would make every effort to be prepared sounds like you will have one shot at this.

PSS. And for bad news Joe, I'd be taking him out for a steak dinner for pointing these things out "before" your warranty is up :)
  • I'm not buying that. Semi trailer will be loaded several thousand pounds, toyhauler couple thousand at best. As others have said, most common problems with toyhaulers, over head cabinets that sometimes get overloaded. Outriggers not strong enough to support load, or floor got soaked and she's a goner. Seems like an attempt to get you out of warranty. I would get all issues settled to your satisfaction before your warranty is up.
  • FWIW I have a 2015 Attitude toyhauler and the floor is as level as a bowling lane. No bow either up or down.

A picture of what your describing would REALLY help. What does "loose front wall" mean.
  • Don't wait. Loose front wall could mean the front of the frame is flexing from insufficient support. Bowed floor could be a moisture issue: wood/strand board is swelling and has no where to go.
  • Sagging walls is a relatively common issue on toy haulers. If you do a search you will see lots of folks getting them fixed. That could be the issue and is prob worth looking into. It usually does not happen on Garage models though since the front wall of the garage gives some extra support.
  • Can you get to the underside and see how its constructed? It would almost make me wonder if there is water damage and swelling if it's bowed up. If it's sagged, I would think that it's not supported properly.
  • My 2006 Keystone Springdale (31 foot TT) had a bow in the floor, and this was NOT a TH either, just a TT. The bowed floor drove me insane. No matter how it was parked, I always felt like I was walking up-hill or down hill inside (at the same time. Getting the beast level was a nightmare. This is when I FINALLY learned the best way to find the 'sweet spot' level is by using the outside door frame with a carpenter's square. Once I finally figured out the floor was bowed up in the middle, I finally lived at peace with it. (well, that's not entirely true... I finally lived at peace with it after 8 years and traded for my Outback!).... which is flat!
  • Can you find any on a nearby lot you can go check out?
