Brake Controller Problems on a 2010 Dodge 3500 CTD

I'm having an issue with my 2010 Dodge Ram 3500 4x4 CTD with the integrated brake controller. We just picked up our new Redwood 36RL and it has electric over hydraulic disc brakes. My problem is the IBC gives me a SC code with the new rig plugged in. We traded our old Bighorn that had electric brakes and the IBC worked fine. Does anyone know if there is a setting for electric/hydraulic brakes in the IBC and how do I get it to the setting to change it?

  • Thanks everyone 4 ur replies. I guess I'll have to go to my local Dodge dealer and see what my options are. Maybe they've come up with different solution. I'll post if I see any progress.

Can 2012 Dodge Ram 3500 Factory Brake Controller be Used w/Electric Over Hydraulic Trailer Brakes

    Question:

i just bought a 2012 ram 3500 and my goose neck electric over hydraulic brakes are not working all the lights and turn signals work but not the brakes. the truck came with a built in break controller. i have read some forums and kind of understand why its not working. my question would be is there a way to keep my existing break controller and still be able to use my trailer breaks with out taking away the stock look of my interior?

It sounds like the factory controller and the brake actuator you have are not compatible. The factory controller in a 2010 and up Ram is not for use with electric over hydraulic systems. In order to get the brakes working, you will need to install an aftermarket trailer brake controller like the P2, # 90885.

In order to use an aftermarket controller you will need to disconnect the ITBM (factory controller) which will cause a warning light on the dash. To disconnect the ITBM, you will need to contact the Dodge Business Center to remove the sales code (XHC). Then a Dodge dealer has to reconfigure the TIPM (totally integrated power module). I have included a link to an FAQ that should help you.

Once you have these steps done you can install the brake controller using wiring harness # 3021-P. I have included some links to isntructions that will help with the remainder of the installation.

Not this difficult at all. You can easily override the factory brake controller and not have a CEL. Install a Prodigy controller of your choice. Instead of the Prodigy wiring harness for a Ram truck purchase the Prodigy harness for a New Jeep Grand Cherokee. The plug on the end of this will plug in where your factory plug goes. Now to eliminate the CEL. All you need to do is provide power and a ground to the IBC to make it think it is working. Tap a wire from the hot wire going to the Prodigy and a ground from the ground wire going to the Prodigy and connect them to the old IBC. Done. Everything will work properly. No need to go to a dealer. I can give you the necessary color codes if needed but I have to go look at mine.

  • As stated, don't believe the Dodge 2010, 11 or 12, (which I owned a 10 and 12), DON'T offer the selection of electric over hydraulic, but the 13 I own Does offer that choice though the EVIC settings for the IBC

  • Not trying to start anything just an observation. On my 2011 F-250 there is a setting through the DIC to change the IBC to electric/hydraulic. I would think that Dodge would have this same feature just to remain competitive.
  • Check with Dodge. I believe you will find that the IBC is not compatible with the trailers system.
