Broken shackle

Was preparing for a trip today. Glad I checked the running gear!

Found this. Are those broken things called shackles?

Looks like I'll be delayed a few days while Les Schwab gets the parts.
  • 2oldman simple as anything to fix. If FW neded to be mowed jack it op and place a cople of 2x2 hardwood bloks between shassi and spring to give tyers clearance and stap them on with som tie downs. I had to travel 1000 miles like that back in Ausralia a couple off years ago. Good luck.

If both you have Dexter and they are the same wt, 7500 lb they will fit. Dexter makes a lot of interchangeable parts. What a good company to do business with too. We do trailer repairs here and if I run into a problem I call the techs. They always seem to love a good challengge.

did you think his springs were getting flat> I was thinking they were.

  • Thanks so much. They probably would fit, but I'm just not a mechanic.

Schwab said Spokane. If there's any trouble maybe I'll contact you.

I don't know if I should be driving very far like that, and I definitely don't have the tools to break those bolts loose. Looks like it would take some real know-how to put that back together.

    thanks

I was thinking you would do the work but don't if you are not feeling it would be a good thing. I have the center beam and shackles off our 35 ft alpenlite and was guessing they would fit yours but you know what is best for you.

  • Same thing happened to me on the road. Strongly recommend you get a wet bolt kit (I got mine from Dexter). I also replaced the equalizer with MorRyde system. My latest change was to switch to a six leaf leaf spring after one of the four leaf ones broke on me. If your mechanically inclined, you can do it all yourself and save some money. Looking at getting some shocks next.
