Bubbling Toilet

Hi Everyone
On our last trip our toilet neared capacity and started "bubbling". My DH found this VERY annoying and occassionally it would bubble enough to splash on the lower side of the lid. I climbed up on the roof and checked both vents, but as far as I could tell they were clear. I ran a tube down each and encountered nothing for as far as I could probe, which was about 3 1/2 feet. After we dumped the tanks the bubbling/gurgling ceased. Did the tanks get too full? Do we have stuck anti-syphone valve somewhere, or is there some issue we are not aware of?
Thanks All
Bill

OR, Yes I did and this solved it for good. Sometimes stuff gets stuck down there. Reach your arm down the hole as far as you can. When down to the max feel around for anything chunky. Grab it and squeeze it between your fingers until it gets smaller then dump some water in it (After you pull your arm out of coarse}. Do this once a month for regular maintenance. Wash your hands before cooking. I do have a self help video available. Hope this helps.

I really hope the guy doesn't think you are serious! :)

  • 'Burping' toilet.......

    Vent too far into tank
    Vent clogged
    Tank full

Vent.....when up on roof...pull vent line cap.
Is top of vent line at roof line or has it dropped down below?
Run a garden hose down vent line......open tank drain valve and blast water thru vent line to clear any possible blockage.

    Tank full.....dump tank

It sounds like the vent is pushed down into the tank too far.

That's my guess. Could still be a clogged vent, since the OP only probed the top 3-1/2 feet or so, but either way bubbling toilet signals sewer gas that is not going up the vent but has to go somewhere.
  • Since the black tank level indicator is notoriously inaccurate I often use the "bubbling" method to know when it needs emptying.

As already mentioned, just empty the tank more often.

    X2.
I have the same issue. About all you can do is empty before it's that full.
