Personally, I've never stayed in a NPS CG, only 2 state CGs here in AZ and a couple private CGs. Most of my camping is boondocking. That being said, a lot of people report having issues with older NPS CGs; site size, road size and overhanging trees are all major issues. Newer CGs don't seem to have these problems, but are much harder to get in to.
There are also =roads= that have length limits. One in AZ that comes immediately to mind is the Mt. Lemmon road. 30' for trailers, IIRC. Also, the campgrounds there are limited to only 22'!
