Cab to trailer clearance
I have a CC 6 1/2' box Silverado 2500HD. The pin box on a fifth wheel I am looking at is 12 inches in front of the trailer front cap. Is there a formula to see if I need a slider hitch.

I have the same truck, '02 4x4. I can =not= hit the cab with my FW going forward and at full lock right or left. ALL FW's will hit the cab when backing up; some sooner than others. A slider would make it a little "less" sooner, but I learned my lesson once, and have no need for one. YMMV.
