I've been checked twice, and was once reported for having an illegal campfire when we were just using a propane BBQ to grill some burgers.

They do check, but there aren't many rangers to cover quite a bit of territory.

I don't believe you need a permit for an established campground.
"Campfire Permits are designed for use on federally controlled lands including those falling under the US Forest Service, National Park Service, and Bureau of Land Management, and private lands that are the property of another person. On private lands you must also have written permission from the landowner for campfire use." Quote from Cal Fire. So if you boondock in Calif, you might need a permit if you use fire outdoors. The only time I have ever had a permit was when backpacking in a national forest. Just food for thought.

I have gotten a permit up in Kennedy Meadows (and asked for one every time by a ranger).....never in the desert.

I see a Problem video says:

"Have a responsible Adult around"

Thats why none of us have a permit. ;)

Out of curiosity, who here has ever been asked to produce a permit?

I've never seen anybody check.

Who here gets permits before they camp?
