Does anyone know if the Corps of engineer parks are closed. I would like to know about Twin Lakes campground in Oconee S.C.

On a cycling forum I participate in, there was notice yesterday to riders in the Ft. Worth area of a COE park closing. So yes, some, if not all are affected. As someone else mentioned, a call to the park would be good.

My choice for camping in that area would be one of the half dozen C.O.E. parks, in large part due to the "geezer" pass. However, both Lake Hartwell and Sadlers Creek SPs are decent and would probably have available space this time of year.

The answer is yes, they are closed unless they get some sort of private funding. National parks, monuments, BLM, forest, army corps all have been clearing out campgrounds and closing gates (if there are gates, some BLM lands can't really be closed).I have seen a few COE parks work with counties and/or concessionaires and those could possibly be open if they get enough money from non-government sources.

Yes, the Corps of Engineers campgrounds are closed in GA. So I would say yes they are.

You do need the federal government (Rangers) to keep the "know nothings" from destroying the campgrounds and even the entire environment with their ORVs as they have done to so much of the open ranges out West.

so disgusted with the whole process ... yeah, thanks - we really need the federal government to be able to camp, or hike thru the forests or ...

If it was put on a debit or credit card, all they have to do is file a chargeback for non-delivery of pre-paid services. PITA, but it's a solution. IIRC, there's a 10-day response time once notice is given to the vendor. With the shutdown, that period may expire before the response can be filed, so it might automatically get refunded.

Wonder if all the folks with reservations or actually camped in a Federal recreation facility that's closed have or will receive a refund? Oh, no one's working, probably couldn't process a refund request...............

My Dad hosts a COE campground at Wright Patman Lake near Texarkana, TX. They issued notices to the campers on Tuesday Morning to be out by noon Wednesday. They still get to keep their host spot and were asked to volunteer to watch the gate until further notice. He said that most people accepted the notice without an issue, only 1 had a real fit. Once the sherrif showed it, all was fine!

They closed up here the other day. It is rumored that they will not reopen. Looks like I may be winterizing early this year.
