Can I just upgrade to 5200 pound axles ?

OK...example; I have a trailer frame with dual axles rated at 4400 each. The frame design is well built with a tubular frame. So lets say the axles are rated for 4400 each now and I have 15 inch E rated tires rated at 2470 each. Could I safely upgrade to the 5200 axles to give me a 10400 max load rating vs. the 8800 I have? It is just a shade above what the tires are rated for but is it an option?

EDIT: I made a mistake on the tire rating which has confused some that know better...my appolgies....the tire rating should be 2830 for each single.

  • Yes IMO. I had a similar situation. My last TT had 4400lb axles and 15" D rated tires. My current 5er has 5200lb tires and came with the same exact brand and size D rated 15" tire. The TT had a GVW of 8800 and the 5er is 11,400. Same size I beam on both.
