So I've been doing it wrong for 10+ years. Oh well, if it works don't fix it.
Maybe not wrong, just not per instructions! If done per instructions you. An do the pull test as soon as you have backed into the hitch, as the jaws are shut and the pin is locked! Latching the handle can happen when you get out of the cab.
