110PSI for lug nuts? First I'm guessing that PSI was a typo and the OP meant 110 ft lbs?
I would suspect the lugs were installed too tight at the factory, that would seem most likely to me. I would recommend the following:
Get in direct touch with the person(s) who did your roadside repairs. See if you can get him to send an email/letter stating any position he has on the failure as well as the pictures he took.
If the above doesn't corroborate what the manufacturer is claiming he stated, take that back to the manufacture and see if you can get them to change their position.
Keep detailed notes about all contacts you have with everyone involved.
Keep records or any out of pocket costs, including new tires, etc...
If you can't get satisfaction from the manufacturer, take them to small claims court for all of your out of pocket expenses AND get quotes to repair any ancillary damages include that in your claim. Small claims is fairly easy, and don't think they are too big to sue in SC court, I sued Anthem/Blue Cross and won easily.
