  • I have one of these too. it is an excellent unit for the money, but it has its limitations. It is a generator, and not an inverter -- that means it runs wide open all of the time. It does consume quite a bit of fuel. That isn't as big an issue now, since fuel is relatively inexpensive. I bought two of the Champion inverters, and they are much smaller and more efficient. Their customer service is better than excellent, by the way.

There is a huge posting elsewhere about this unit by the way.
  • when boondocking or in camps without elect. we use our 8yo 3500w Champion about 6 hrs / day. A big cardboard box over it with one side mostly cut away over it turns it into a mere hum in the disconnected truck bed or away from the rig on an extension. Try it, cuts the noise in half.
Dissappoint your G Kids by telling them you want the box to play in!
  • I have one. Not as loud as some want you to think. I rarely use it but have it if I need it. Replaced a Honda 2000 with this one. Sold the Honda for almost what I bought it for. Decided if someone was going to steal something out of my garage I would rather let them have this. Honda was too expensive to just leave it sitting there. It's a bargain for that price.

  • I am a BIG fan of Champion i have a 3100. But this is not a camping generator its more of a home or construction use. I hat when people chime in that it will be loud when talking about Champion but inn this case it is correct.
  • I noticed under 'details' it has a 2 year limited warranty with free technical advice for life.

Under 'specifications' it has a 10 year limited warranty. I'm guessing the 10 year limited warranty is a misprint.

    Yes, it's a good deal.
  • I have three (3500/4000 and two 2,000s)and that is a good price. Have had good luck with all of them. The 3500 if probably seven years old. And, I don't take the 3500 camping. It is for home use and to run air while packing for trips.
  • I keep one just like it at the house for storm-outage backup.. Easy start. Very dependable. I like the fact that I can plug the 30Amp dogbone in without modification if we decide to move to the trailer (Air Conditioning and hot water) after a storm.

We didn't have that option after Charlie and it was a miserable six days waiting for Florida Power to get to us.

Yes, that is a good price.

That is EXACTLY what I paid for mine 6 years ago from TSC.

As for the Noise Police, OP asked if this is a good deal PERIOD! He didn't ask can I camp next to you with this or is this a good generator for a public campground.

I use mine often but never had a desire to camp with it. They have many uses.

It a good generator but is going to be real NOISY...

Also alot of camp ground have generator use time restrictions in place and this one being as loud as it is will get spotted real quick haha...

Where we camp in public places usualy have generator hours a couple of hours in the morning and maybe three hours in the late afternoon.. Never do we find you can run your generator at public camp grounds after 8PM at night.

If you are at private places or maybe back off the trail doing dispersed camping then you will be good to go when you want to... We have very limited dispersed camping locations in our local areas. This is mostly out West finding these kinds of places...

Most of our Natl Forest areas still have the the couple of hours in the morning and maybe three hours in the late afternoon periods. Some are starting to allow generators from 8AM to 8PM... Again I have never found one that allowed any generator operations after 8PM...

The built-in generators in Motor Homes seems to get a free pass sometimes as no one can tell if it is the generator or the motor running I guess...

    Just saying...

  • That is what I paid for mine a couple years ago on sale. I really like it, but if I had to do it again I would get the electric start just because I am lazy. It pull starts very easily.
