For the record - I am only answering because it does in fact look like a bad job in the pic... I took the pic originally to show the clean (no snow) roof ,with 30" around me..
#1- a lot of what you see is snow around the seam... The tape is white , but I figured that who the heck will see up there to question white verses another color.
#2 - I agree that the pic makes it appear not as neat , but I can assure you it looks fine close up with no snow.
#3- more importantly , it does the job... and in my eyes , easier to use than caulk.
