Chipmunks in the outside storage compartment

Never had a problem before but recently have been getting what I think are chipmunk in the front storage compartment. They seem to find outdoor yard mats very tasty. Any ideas how to repeal or exterminate them?

  • Rat traps work quite well. Peanut butter is a good bait.
    Milt
  • I did the 1/2 bucket of water with the ramp and sunflower seed trap too....This really works well! I had similar results and even ended up getting a few bonus mice in the process too. I had no idea there were that many of those little critters around the yard!
  • We had them get in to our lake house a few years ago. They even got into the furnace ducts and I found acorns in my work boots and my wife had acorns in her makeup bag. Luckily I found a black snake (about a 5' er just outside our crawl space. I didn't bother him at all. I'm sure he got in our crawl space. Never had any problems after that. Got to love those black snakes, they know there place in natures scheme of things!
  • I had good luck with the midevil approach.

Stick a hose down the hole and wait at the top with a 2x4. It's a more humane approach because it only takes a second to finish them off when they stick their noses out

I would be very leery of doing this; they go into inaccessible areas of the unit looking for water and then die causing an ugly smell that you can't get rid of. I went through this a couple of units ago with rats.
  • Near the 5er put one or more 5 gal buckets half full of water with a ramp for them to scurry up. Then sprinkle enough sunflower seeds on top of water to completely cover the water. One year we were overloaded with chipmunks at home, we live in the woods, and I got just over 80 of them in 2 1/2 months time using this method. It works great and you won't run the possibility of having them crawl into some space too die that you can't access as can happen using poison

If they're singing bring them in the house - they'll make you enough to buy a hundred RVs.

    DeCon works well.
