Well, we have officially started the hunt for the fiver and a truck. I am surprised by how much fifth wheel you get for the money compared to my class A. I was also surprised by how little they weighed. We looked at a 38' triple slide Blue Ridge that only weighed a hair over 12.5k dry. Going to do some serious looking this weekend and with any luck I will be able to sell my truck out right and not have to worry about trading.
You need to do yourself a favor and kick out the "dry weight"...No one tows a 5er "dry"...You should use the GVW of the 5er to figure out the size truck you need....12.5K dry plus whatever "cargo carrying capacity" it has...GVW....When you get the actual GVW, (again, not the dry weight), take 20% of that and it will give you a "ballpark" of approx. how much pin weight you will drop in the bed of your truck...Also add approx. 200# for the weight of a 5th wheel hitch....simple math and a little common sense go a long way in helping purchase a 5er and the truck to tow it with...if done correctly will make your towing experience a real pleasure..
