Columbus by Palomino-- anybody own one?

We looked at 320RS today and really liked the floor plan, the salesman said it was a step up from the Forest River Cedar Creek, I'm not sure about that. Anyway I did some research and the axle is 6000lb, roof is R 30 and the floor is R38, sides R9, someone said the frame is 10" and that seems to be a little whimpy but probably industry standard. One thing that really concerns me is a rubber roof, is this a concern?
Does anyone have any advice on this particular model, is there something else I should look at when considering this fiver?
Pin wt. 2015 GVWR 14K, ext. length 36'9"
Thanks in advance
  • The new Columbus is built heavier than my model. For 2015 model year, they switched to a 2" sidewall and "whisper air" a/c units.

They are very nice for the money, and we do love ours.
  • Impossible to have delam with a Cedar Creek or Silverback. They're hung type walls as opposed to vacuum bonded or pinch rolled.
  • "I believe the salesman got it backwards. I am guessing he doesn't sell the Cedar Creek. "

That is exactly what I thought, and your right he did not carry CC.
All that aside we did like the floor plan of the Columbus, but we also liked the Cedar Creek as well.
After reading so many comments and listening to five different sales reps things start to seem the same, difficult to remember the differences and really no real data on quality except what we find out researching on forums.
I think I am suffering from information overload.
  • We have a Columbus 2015 320RS & love it. I agree with Kzspree320 - Buy the floor plan, features & decor that you like best. We ordered our 320 with 7k axles for a $420 option & the new ones come with R11 sides. There are many nice 5th wheels out there & none are perfect. The Cedar Creek is very nice but I felt was too heavy for our 2500 TV. I did look seriously at the Silverbacks but prefered the floorplan & features of the Columbus. We found very few can compare to the Columbus build & features for the money, but we all have different wants/needs & budgets.
  • I own a 2014 Columbus 295RL (about 35 ft). It is not constructed like the Cedar Creek at all, so I don't understand why the comparison was made by the salesman. We love ours and have had very few problems in our year and a half of ownership. Took it to the dealer one time for minor service.

We looked at the Cedar Creeks and Silverbacks. We liked the Columbus better, but it was simply laid out like we wanted it. If the Cedar Creek or Silverback met our individual needs as well as the Columbus, I would have had no problem buying either one.

Buy the floor plan that best fits your needs, as well as the decor you like best. I think any of them are likely to meet your needs. Good luck. Keith
  • I think the salesman is a typical lying salesman. Everybody has opinions and in my mind Columbus is no where close to a Cedar Creek.
  • I believe the salesman got it backwards. I am guessing he doesn't sell the Cedar Creek.
  • It's a step back from the Cedar Creek. Might be closer to the Silverback. Total different build process for the Cedar Creek.
