- Itching2goExplorer IIWe've pulled both, and much prefer our fiver. Reasons are as follows in no particular order...
1 - Much easier to pull, with no sway or 'push' from passing trucks or side winds.
2 - shorter overall length as the front extends over the bed of the truck.
3 - Much more storage space in the basement, although that is somewhat offset by space in the truck bed that is lost to the hitch.
4 - A much more spacious feel in the coach with the tall ceiling.
5 - Separation between living/kitchen areas and the bedroom suite enhanced by an upstairs area.
Having said this, though, it is a personal decision. Some prefer not having steps up to the bedroom level. Some prefer to not have the need for a truck of a size needed to pull a fiver. Some might agree with my points above, but don't feel that it's worth it to them to spend the additional dollars for a fiver/truck combo. No right and no wrong... only what works best for you. - djousmaExplorerWe've done the typical progression...tent->popup->TT for 13 years, now Fifth wheel for the last year. All were good at the time we had them. Now our kids are grown, still come camping, but prefer to be in their own tent. We went to Fifth, and not looking back. I realize everyones view of "camping" is different, but for me I like having the creature comforts that "glamping" brings.
- buckyExplorer IIWe went to a 5er 5 years ago or so, I wasn't aware of any improvements in the way TTs tow now.
Floorplans have certainly improved and some models have big boy holding tanks now. Could you please explain the towing differences in the newer TTs as compared to the older ones. - md_procoupleExplorerWe agree so far with every one here so far lol. We enjoy the spaciousness of the 5'er, as I am still an early riser around 5:00 Am, I can have my morning coffee etc. and not have to worry about waking my wife by moving around making a any noise etc. just have to close the door and just be a little bit careful. Not to mention getting older lol. the Tents, Pop-ups, and TT, in that order are pretty normal for couples, and those with children, They too may end up in a 5'er or Class A. Good Luck and Happy Camping !!
- Wild_CardExplorerThere are no improvement in TT towing. Fact is it probably worse being stuff is built lighter and axels are more centered
- keymastrExplorerI have to watch for low trees already, the extra height of a 5er is a drawback for me. If you only go to groomed parks then it will be ok but even the city streets around my town have tons of "tree tunnels" where RVs and trucks have carved them out.
- larry_barnhartExplorerWe just arrived in Az yesterday. Towing south on 93 in Nv we had side wind. Followed two TT during the day and both were having issues swaying left to right plus a MH passed us and same for it. No issues for towing our 35 ft alpenlite with the dually truck. Both TT were towed with 3/4 pickups. chevman
- goducks10ExplorerIf the inside steps are a non issue and you don't require 100% of your truck bed for stuff then hands down a 5er is the way to go. It's why you see so many full timers or snow birds towing them. They must know something.

With new bumper pulls pulling so nicely and much h better than the older ones how do they do compare to a fifth wheel
compare
Take a look at the Highland Ridge 340FLR trailer. Similar storage as a 5'er, high ceilings. Still have the truck box for storage. It will be longer than a 5'er , but I have NO sway with a Reese dual cam .
